PGNx Media began life in January 2002 as Pro Games Network (PGNx). The name was quickly shorted to PGNx Network, with PGNx no longer standing for anything. PGNx Network was founded to serve as a hub for independent videogame websites after Jose's troubled experiences with prior networks. Eventually, this planned was scrapped and the site was renamed PGNx Media.
PGNx Media had a console gaming focus since its inception. It began covering the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. As its popularity increased, the website expanded its focus to include PC games and Gameboy Advance games. PGNx Media is now a multiplatform videogame website covering all current console, handheld, and PC games.
PGNx Media prides itself on delivering a "fansite attitude" with "professional coverage." In practical terms, this means that the website aims to publish launch date reviews for the biggest releases while maintaining a humble and consistent voice across its reviews. Over the years, the website has boasted a number of exclusive reviews (with perhaps the first notable one being an exclusive review of Doom 3, which was published before IGN and GameSpot published their own reviews), as well as a prior sponsorship from high-end PC maker Alienware.
PGNx Media is now run by the small team of dedicated gamers listed on the right. It is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA and has an office in Perth Amboy, NJ.
